Why do I need to know my IP Address?
IP Gnome detects and displays your actual IP address given to you by your Internet service provider. Depending on how your ISP is configured, your IP address is most likely temporary, and changes regularly (Dynamic IP Address). Dynamic IP addresses are usually less expensive than static IP addresses which do not change. Your dynamic IP address may change every month, every day or even every hour, depeind on how your ISP is configured. Knowing your ISP-assigned IP address can be hlepful for troubleshooting internet connections or setting up software.

How is my IP Address Mapped?
IP Gnome is able to Map your IP address because addresses are usually tied to your Internet service provider's location. Many IP address are based on blocks of multiple IP's assigned to a particular region or ISP. Knowing these blocks can tie an IP address to a certain country or region and show the general loction. The maps provided on IP Gnome are very general, and may not be 100% accurate to your actual physical location.

Does IP Gnome Log my IP Address?
No, IP addresses are simply displayed on the screen when you visit the site.
